FIRST DAYS
The period of adjusting to a new situation such as preschool can be a valuable experience for your child. Each child reacts to the new experience in his or her own way and makes the adjustment at their own rate. We will assist you in making this transition go as smooth as possible. We do not encourage parents to come in for the entire class period with your child even the first few days of school. If your child seems uncertain the first few times mom or dad leaves, you may want to suggest that you will be gone only for a short while and will return. Keep your promise and return on time.

Occasionally the adjustment can take longer, but this occurs with many children who eventually become completely comfortable at school. Time given to the child and confidence gained by him during this period may help your child in the future in kindergarten, a new community, camp, etc... Be aware that long vacations and long illness may begin the adjustment process again.

HEALTH
It is essential for the protection of the children that you follow certain health procedures. Adherence to the following health rules will contribute greatly to the insurance of a healthy successful school year. Each parent is asked to fill out a medical history of their child to be kept on file at school.

Parents must keep their child home when there are signs of a cold or fever. If the fever is 100 or higher, please keep your child at home. If your child becomes ill at school, and the teacher feels he or she should be at home, you will be called. If there is any doubt about the child being ready and fit to return to school, parents are expected to assume the responsibility of keeping the child home.

Please notify us of any major changes in your child's health habits. THIS PRESCHOOL IS NOT EQUIPPED TO CARE FOR CHILDREN WITH COMMUNICABLE DISEASES. (i.e. pink eye, chicken pox, impetigo etc...)

IMMUNIZATIONS
If you have not yet had your child immunized, we encourage you to have this done. Every preschooler should be protected against polio, measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetnus and mumps. According to Public Law 103, Acts of 1976, every child entering public school must have the following immunizations completed: 4 doses DPT, 4 doses oral polio vaccine, 1 dose measles vaccine, 2 doses of rubella vaccine. The vaccine for mumps is recommended but not required. A tuberculin skin test is required for Kindergarten.

OUTSIDE PLAY
We have a playground on the campus. Occasionally we will take the children to the park. Please make sure your child has on play clothes at all times when coming to school, especially in the spring.

TOYS FROM HOME
Most children love to bring favorite toys, books etc. to school. We welcome this, but suggest that parents allow their children to bring that special toy to school on Share Day. Your teacher will notify you concerning the day that is set aside for sharing favorite items. Please be sure your child's name is on each item. Parents, we will do everything we can to protect their "valuables" but the school can not be responsible items broken at school that were brought from home. If you have something of real monetary or sentimental value that you would like to share withthe other children we suggest that you contact the teacher ahead of time and come with your child on that day. Generally speaking, the fewer toys from home, the better.

TREATS and BIRTHDAYS
Each child's birthday is celebrated on the nearest school day to your child's birthday. We try to make this their "special day" at school. He/she may furnish treats for that day. We have found that bringing treats for friends is a great self-image builder for children. If you like to bake and let your child help, we will be glad to have any special treats at school. These do not have to be fancy - cookies, crackers, fruits, etc. are fine. Please contact the teacher in advance about a suitable day to bring in snacks. Teachers will have a sign up list in their class for parents to bring in snacks for their class. Note: Please no cupcakes.

Holidays are made special occasions at school. Please be sure to notify the teacher if you would be willing to bring in treats for any occasion.

TUITION
Tuition is due on the 8th day of every month. Please make your check payable to Northside Preschool.

You may mail your payments to: 2510 Highway 62, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130 or send payment to school with your child. Please mark the envelope "attn: director".

Tuition is an important part of the Northside Preschool. If it isn't there, our teachers don't get paid.

VISITNG
We encourage visitors at school (grandparents, friends, etc) however, we do ask that there be no visitors during the first few weeks of school while your child is adjusting to his/her new environment. Once the initial adjustments have been made, visitors are welcome. If there is anything the school needs to know regarding restrictions to this rule, please notify the teacher and director.

We do not recommend parents at school with their child. This can discourage the trust issue for the teacher. It can make it difficult for the child to know whom to listen to, (parent or teacher). We feel it can be an interference in their social growth and an unnecessary dependence on the parent. Preschool opens doors to your child to learn to be independent. Feel free to visit occasionally, but please respect the teacher/child relationship and make the visit brief as not to disturb his/her responsibility to the teacher and his/her peers.
