What Shall I Do With Jesus?

Finding Jesus innocent, Pilate tried to release Him instead of Barabbas, an insurrectionist. When Jewish leaders chose Barabbas for release, Pilate, in a dilemma, asked, “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?” Matthew 27:22. When the crowd demanded His crucifixion, Pilate yielded.

The question Pilate asked is the same question each person must ask and answer. One either totally ignores Jesus or evaluates His claims and decides to turn from Him or to follow Him.

Believing Jesus is who He claimed to be, the Son of God, one chooses to accept His lordship by being immersed for the remission of sins, thus becoming a follower of the Lord. Acts 2:38. This, however, is the initial response. What shall Christians do with Jesus? Rejoicing in salvation, Christians worship “in spirit and in truth”, seeking daily to live for “the will of God” doing “good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” John 4:23-24; 1 Peter 4:2; Ephesians 2:10.

Some disbelieve; others believe, but are like some disciples in Jesus’ day. On hearing Jesus’ message, they turned away, no longer following Him. When Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave too?” Peter responded, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:60-69. If not Jesus, then who or what? Nothing can compare to the blessing of peace with God and with self in the assurance of eternal life in Jesus.

The great question each must answer: “What shall I do with Jesus?” Ignore Him? Believe but not accept Him? Believe and obey, but not live in faithfulness to His will? Believe, obey and serve Him faithfully? What is your answer?
