Have you ever thought about what it will be like when Jesus comes again? While no one knows when that day will be, there are many speculations about what will happen, many of which are without Scriptural authority. Nevertheless, Scripture does state very plainly several things that will occur when Jesus returns.

For Christians, that day will be the greatest day of life! The promise of the Father of eternal life will be realized as our hope will become reality!

As Paul addressed the persecution of believers at Thessalonica (2 Thessalonians 1), he assured Christians that God is righteous in that those who are guilty of inflicting suffering upon them because of their faith will be punished: “He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power…” (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).

He continued with a contrast of what the day will be like for Christians: “…on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.” (2 Thessalonians 1:10).

Saints, God’s holy people, as it were, will surround their Lord with praise, honor and glory. They will marvel at the Lord’s glory, seeing Him as He is. Having lived a life of faith, trusting the unseen Lord, now saints see Him; now saints go home to be with Him forever! This is perhaps far beyond all we have ever thought and wonder overwhelms!

For the day of His return to be a glorious day, one must be prepared for it by obedience to the Lord’s command to be a Christian and to live the Christian life faithfully. Are you ready?

Little wonder early Christians had the prayer, “Marana tha”—“Come, O Lord!” (1 Corinthians 16:22).
