This month the classic song, Joy to the World, is frequently heard and sung in celebration of the birth of Jesus.
Think about the message of this song:
- The Lord is come. Writers of the gospel account, John, Luke and Matthew, record the birth of Jesus. Although there is no Biblical record of the date of His birth, we rejoice that He left the glories of heaven to dwell among mankind.
- Let earth receive her king. Being the creator, He is Lord of lords and King of kings (1 Timothy 6:15).
- Let every heart prepare Him room. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). He will not force entry into our hearts; instead He wants us willingly to open our hearts to Him.
- The Savior reigns. Christians are citizens of God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13) having Jesus as our King to whom we submit.
- Let men their songs employ. Our great privilege is to express our gratitude and praise to our Lord and Savior through songs—psalms, hymns and spiritual songs—in our worship.
- He rules the world in truth and grace. Unlike human governments, the rule of the Lord is always righteous with truth in all things.
The message of this song needs to be sung throughout the year: The Lord is come offering the blessings of salvation to those who will receive Him!
