Investment Choices

Before one makes a major financial investment, he spends time researching investment firms for their financial stability, track records of annual returns on investments, etc. One does not wish to take risks with firms near bankruptcy nor those who do not produce good returns on investments.

While very careful to make wise investment choices, just how careful are we in our choices of life? Do we choose to let culture determine our lifestyle? Or do we choose to follow the Lord as He reveals His will for us in Scripture?

Christians are admonished, “Do not love the world or things in the world” (1 John 2:15). The “things of the world” are defined as “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). Each of these traits is not of God, but of the world. Then comes a warning: the one who gives himself to the things of the world – the ways of culture – literally has no future. He has chosen to invest in a bankrupt firm. On the other hand, the one who invests life in God has a great future as he will dwell with God throughout eternity! (1 John 2:15-17).

The return of the investment of life: with the world, disappointment, bankruptcy; with God, certainty of heaven. My choice is to the will of God, not only receiving His blessings now, but for eternity!
